Whitaker Mill Watering Holes, three stops

two pint glasses of beer, with crostini appetizers on a plate in between
Neuse River Brewing

Date and time: Not scheduled at this time

Cost: $65 per person

What’s included: Beer and cider tastings at three stops, light appetizers at one stop, gratuities for bartenders.

This tour, which includes a round-trip urban hike of about 2 miles, is offered during warmer weather. We’ll spend the afternoon in the Whitaker Mill Road/Old Wake Forest Road neighborhood visiting three beverage venues, including two breweries and a cidery. The tour will include 2-4 tastings at each venue. As we go along, you’ll learn about North Carolina’s craft beer industry, how beer and cider are made, and what makes these Raleigh establishments unique.

We’ll begin our stroll at the end of the journey, at the corner of Pershing Road across from Neuse River Brewing, a block with lots of on-street parking. The plan is to have your car nearby when we finish up at our last brewery. We’ll walk about a mile to our first brewery — Lynnwood Brewing Concern — for some tastings and appetizers. Then, we’ll visit Raleigh’s first cidery — East Bower Cider Co. — to taste ciders made from local apples.

For our last stop, we’ll walk back to where we started (again about a mile) to Neuse River Brewing and Brasserie for our final stop for tastings, and maybe a brewery tour.

Know before you go: You must be 21 to participate. The tour is rain or shine. Wear good shoes for walking and clothing appropriate for the weather. To participate in a behind-the-scenes tour, you must wear close-toed shoes.
